This is true about everything in the Bible, including commands like keeping the Sabbath or keeping His Torah.

As a Messianic Hebrew, I believe we all ought to keep the Torah (first five books of the OT). “Hebrew” simply means, “crossed over” and I have crossed over from being a reformed Baptist who didn’t know much about Torah to a Torah observant, Sabbath keeping follower of Yeshua / Jesus.

Jesus didn’t come to do away with Moses’ laws. What did He teach in Matthew 23:1-3? Jesus is commanding His disciples:
a) to obey and do everything taught out of Moses’ seat and
b) not to do what the Pharisees practice which is contrary to what is preached from Moses’ seat.

He wants us to observe Moses’ laws but not follow the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. He came to expose the false teaching of the Pharisees, who have added to God’s laws their man-made laws and taught that salvation is based on keeping them. We know that salvation is through God’s grace and our faith in the redemptive work of Jesus on the cross. But Jesus NEVER made God’s commands void. Paul knew that too. Paul never taught against God’s laws but against the legalism he himself came from before Jesus taught him the true meaning of Torah observance.

The Torah is the wedding contract between Jesus and His bride. It is not burdensome but it’s for our own good. We who claim to follow Jesus desire to keep God’s laws. Jesus Himself said that He does what His father does (John 5:19), so if we say we follow Him, we should try our best to do what He did and He did keep God’s laws.

Anything you believe to know about this topic that tells you that you don’t have to keep it is a misunderstanding of Scripture. Check out the teachings on YouTube from ministries like 119 Ministries, Unlearn the Lies, New2Torah, Triumph in Truth, or Lion and the Lamb Ministries. If you look them up, you will find many who claim their teaching is false. That’s because those people don’t know better and keep believing the lies they’ve grown up with.
